For women, picking the right sports bra is just as important as choosing the right pair of running shoes. But once you have the sports bra, how do you make the most out of every mile? By taking good care of it!

To keep your sports bra performing just the way it should, here are three tips for extending your bra’s life and taking as good of care of it as it does of you.

1. No sports bra should celebrate a birthday

Key signs to look for include worn labels, bottom bands and straps that are no longer providing proper tension for support which can lead to chaffing and general shifts in fit.

2. Have at least three sports bras that you love in your rotation

Why three? So you’ll always have one on hand, one on deck and one in the hole (i.e. One for your workout, one in the wash, one in your drawer). Keep that rotation going so you don’t miss a workout and your bra doesn’t miss a wash.

3. Wash and dry with care

Hand washing is preferred, but if you plan to machine wash, it’s best to use the gentle or delicate cycle and be sure to fasten hooks or straps. Even better, place your sports bras into a lingerie wash bag.

For drying, heat from a machine dryer can take a toll on the fabric so we recommend air drying – or tumble dry on a low temperature.

For best results, use a gentle, lingerie-friendly detergent. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets can clog the fabric and shorten the life of your bra by limiting its ability to wick sweat and resist odors.
